Gold-filled Jewelry
A high-quality, durable, and affordable alternative to solid gold. The majority of mrs mac jewelry uses gold-filled components for optimal quality.
Avoid wearing gold-filled jewelry in the ocean or swimming pools, as saltwater and chlorine may erode the finish.
Avoiding submerging these pieces excessively in water and removing them in the shower is recommended.
Keep your gold-filled jewelry as dry as possible by storing your piece(s) in a soft pouch, separated from other jewelry and items that may be cause scratches.
Apply and allow perfume, hairspray, and hand lotions to dry completely on your skin before putting on your jewelry. This simple step will reduce the risk of tarnishing your gold-filled jewelry.
Occasionally use the soft cloth to gently wipe any residue and polish your gold-filled pieces. Avoid excessive polishing to maintain their natural shine. Avoid cleaning with chemicals.
Gold-plated jewelry
Using a thinner layer of gold than gold-filled jewelry, gold-plated jewelry is a cost-effective alternative to solid gold that may be more susceptible to tarnish over time.
Follow the same care instructions as gold-filled jewelry.
Note that the mrs mac only uses gold-plated ear wire and other findings in a few pieces of jewelry.
Pearls
A combination of timeless, natural beauty and effortless sophistication that require a little extra care.
Avoid swimming, bathing, submerging pearls in water and vigorous activity that can cause damage.
Avoid exposure to the effects of harsh chemicals by allowing perfume, hairspray, and lotions to fully dry on your skin before putting on your piece. Such chemicals can erode the outer layers of the pearls.
Store pearls flat- if possible- and separately from other jewelry or objects that might scratch the surface of the pearls.
When not wearing, store the pearls in a soft cloth bag and avoid storage in airtight containers, as they require air and moisture to maintain their color and original condition.
Use the soft cloth that comes with every piece of jewelry sold to gently wipe off any residue on the pearls soft cloth and maintain their beauty.
Semi-Precious Stones and Beads
Whether stones are dazzling, waxy or dull, maintaining their natural appeal is easy.
Occasionally use a soft cloth to gently clean the stones.
For a deeper cleaning use warm water with mild dish soap detergent and a soft jewelry cleaning brush to remove residue.
Avoid wearing your gemstones in water.
Remove your jewelry when doing strenuous activities or exercising.
Avoid direct contact with beauty products, perfumes, or other chemicals or apply and allow them to dry prior to putting on the jewelry.
Sterling Silver Jewelry
Keeping the metal finish shiny and bright is simple. Some sterling silver is oxidized. For maintain a more edgy dark patina of oxidized silver, little to no polish is required.
Use a sterling silver polishing cloth. Liquid cleaners can be used when the entire piece of jewelry is sterling silver.
For pieces with stones, pearls and other metals, the polishing cloth only is recommended as liquid jewelry cleaner can damage some stones.
Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.
Store sterling jewelry in a dry place away from direct light to avoid excessive tarnishing or in an airtight plastic bag.
